“The graphics card driver keeps crashing and recovering when I am in the game.” Many Windows users have reported this issue.

When launching or running a game or video application on Windows 10/8/7, the application or the Windows system crashes, freezes or exits to desktop suddenly, and in some cases, the computer gets stuck in a blue screen or black screen. Then the error message pops up, saying:

Display driver stopped responding and has recovered;

Display driver AMD driver has stopped responding and has recovered successfully;

Display driver NVIDIA stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

The reasons and solutions of this problem can be shown in the following:

Reason 1 The graphics driver in your Windows is outdated or corrupted

If a newer version of the graphics drivers on your computer is available for your computer, downloading and installing them may just be able to fix this problem for you.

1. Right-click on the Windows icon (Start Menu) to choose Device Manager.

2. Expand Display adapters, right click on the driver software and choose to update the display driver.

Reason 2 Too much stress is on GPU

A Windows computer’s graphics driver may reboot and cause the “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error message to be displayed when more applications and programs than the GPU can handle are running. If that, simply closing a few unnecessary applications and programs that are running and that should do the trick.

1. Open Neptune SystemCare and one click on PC Checkup.

2. Go to System Monitor to end some unnecessary programs and services.

3. Go to Privacy Protector>Privacy Eraser and clean the history of the viewed pictures and videos.

Reason 3 Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) feature does not respond

TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) has a set time period at the end of which, if a Windows computer’s GPU does not respond, the feature reboots the display drivers, at which point the “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error message is displayed. To fix this, increasing TDR’s set timeout for your GPU to respond in time

1. Press Win + R to open Run command, type regedit in and press enter to open Register Editor.

2. Extend the tree nodes: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > GraphicsDrivers.

3. Click Edit on the toolbar > New. Choose your 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

4. Type TdrDelay as the file name > double click TdrDelay file and add 8 for as Value Data. Click OK.

Reason 4 Overheating CPU

Overheating CPU could cause the display driver issue. You can use Neptune SystemCare to detect and monitor your CPU temperature.
