Face it: No matter how large your C drive or primary hard drive is, when you first bought your computer, you always find out your C drive is completely or very nearly full. And you are likely confronting one or more of the situations listed below:
-> Windows operating system is running slowly.
-> Some programs do not work properly.
-> Data losses.
Fortunately, there are some easy and quick tricks to free up space on your C drive or another hard drive. They are all tried-and-true solutions and you could try any one you like.
Solution 1 Use Your Neptune SystemCare Ultimate
Neptune SystemCare Ultimate is an all-in-one PC optimization tool to make your computer faster and more secure. In this case, it cleans out junk files, filters out the large files and frees up disk space to clean up your computer.
Clean Your C Drive Completely
If you have not changed the storage path in the settings, all the file and installation apps you download, not mention the one you thought tedious and remove to the recycle bin—they are all on your C drive. In Neptune SystemCare Ultimate, you could get it done quickly.
-> Run and click System Cleaner>Advanced Cleaner.
-> Expand Scan Location and you could only choose C drive.
-> Click on Scan and wait a moment. (You could choose the detecting file categories in Advanced Settings.)
->View the results and Clean. You could uncheck the box before the file or right-click on it to choose Ignore if you do not want to remove.
Search for Large and Unnecessary Files
You may have files hiding in the depths of your storage drive that you don't need, but they are actually taking up huge amounts of space. These could be log files, temporary files or installation apps for programs you've already installed. Here's how to find your largest files in Neptune SystemCare Ultimate.
->Run and click System Cleaner>Big File Manager.
-> Expand Scan Location and you could only choose C drive. Scan and wait for the results.
->Check the box and delete. And if you want to save them in other folder or device, you could choose Export to… and save. Then delete them from C drive.
Solution 2 Use Windows Tools (Takes a bit longer than the Solution 1)
Run Disk Cleanup
Freeing up disk space on your computer will definitely help clean up your computer and make it run faster. The Disk Cleanup is a tool in Windows that removes temp files, cleans your recycle bin and other useless system files that you may no longer need. To use the disk cleanup tool in Windows:
->Open Start menu, type Disk Cleanup in the Search Box, and click on Disk Cleanup.
->Choose the hard drive that you want to clean up.
->On the Disk Cleanup Tab, click the check boxes for all of the files that you want to remove, click Ok.
Uninstall Unwanted Programs
Start by removing any installed programs that you no longer use or have downloaded by accident. You can do this by going to Start menu > Control Panel (System) > Programs (Apps & features) > Uninstall a program. Click any programs you want to remove, and select Uninstall/Change.
Adjust Virtual Memory
Sometimes it is not because you used up too much space on your files, but a small memory it has. Lacking enough memory is a universal feature of C drive. The system installing guy just hates giving C drive too much memory. But you can change it on your own. Managing virtual memory can not only improve performance but also prevents program crashes when all RAM is in use.
->Open Start menu and type appearance and performance in, select the first option ”Adjust appearance and performance”.
->A window pop out and select Advance tab, click change.
->Uncheck “Automatically……” and click the drive system is installed on select custom size.
->Set initial and maximum size to the value recommended by windows.
Even you have cleaned your C drive completely this time, but you have to do it on a regular month basis.
