Since a lot depends on the condition of your registry, to delete/remove invalid registry entries can speed up your computer, making it start up and run faster, to some extent. Meanwhile, this unwanted data clutter up the Registry may sometimes even cause PC to crash, especially if it contains references to non-existent files.

Here we will introduce two effective ways to clean invalid registry keys of the deleted programs. Be Careful that whichever way you choose, you should back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Method One | Use Registry Editor Manually

Registry Editor is a Windows built-in tool for the registry. It’s quite a risk to delete or modify registry keys yourself unless you know exactly what that key is supposed to do. Therefore, before you clean up the registry, make sure that you know what you are doing.

Step 1 Backup Registry

->Press Win+R to open Run box, type regedit.exe in the box and then press Enter.

-> In Registry Editor, click on the registry key that you want to back up. Click File > Export.

->Save them in a safe place, like a trusted USB.

Step 2 Located the deleted programs and Delete the registry keys

Delete any applications’ listings that have been uninstalled before.

For example:

->HKEY_CURRENT_USER" key (looks like a folder), and more folders expand.

->Find Software key, scroll to the old applications and press delete.

Step 3 Reboot your PC to check if anything wrong

Reboot your computer after deleting the invalid registry entries and see if your PC is started up like normal.

All of the entry issues that were safe to fix were automatically check marked, and the user can check the ones labeled “Caution” or “Extreme Caution” manually. It backs up anything you might have changed, just in case you ever subsequently run into problems.
