Error message – NVIDIA Installer failed

When you upgrade to Windows 10, the Windows update would try to download and install the latest graphics drivers in the background immediately. Sometimes this process takes 5-10 minutes or even longer, during which you will most likely get an error which says NVIDIA installer failed.

How to fix NVIDIA installer failed on Windows 10

Method 1 

Allow the Windows 10 system idle for 15-20 minutes to ensure the Windows Update has completed the downloading and installation processes. After waiting for 15-20 minutes, reboot the system. Once the system is up again, install the NVIDIA Driver by following the steps set out below:

->In the Installation options window, select Custom and click Next.

->On the next screen, check the box Perform a clean installation, click Next.

->Follow the instructions to finish the installation.

->Reboot the system.

If it still won’t work, try Method 2.

Method 2

Some antivirus tools are known to block files during the NVIDIA Driver installation. You can temporarily turn it off before the NVIDIA installation, and turn it on after.


->Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and select Task Manager, end antivirus process.

->Reboot your PC and install NVIDIA Driver like what you did using Method 1. 

Method 3 

If Method 2 failed, you should uninstall the driver thoroughly and reinstall then. To uninstall NVIDIA driver completely, you can follow:

->End the NVIDIA driver process in the Task Manager first.

->Delete all the NVIDIA related files, you can search them in the search box from the start menu.

  Make sure to remove the following files:

   C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_lh file

   C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvdsp.inf file

   C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvoclock file

   C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\

   C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\

->Use Neptune SystemCare Ultimate to clean all the leftover files.

-> Reboot your PC and install NVIDIA Driver like what you did using Method 1.

If none of the above solutions works for NVIDIA driver failed, you may need to reinstall windows.
